Nano-Silica Reinforced Epoxy Resin

 

Composition

ICAM 8650 is a high performance, versatile, silica reinforced bisphenol F based epoxy resin. The silica phase consists of surface-modified synthetic SiO2 nanospheres of very small size (average diameter of 20 nm) with a narrow particle size distribution (maximum diameter 50 nm). Despite the high SiO2 content of 40 wt%, ICAM 8650 has a comparatively low viscosity due to the agglomerate-free colloidal dispersion of the nanoparticles in the resin.

 

Application and Usage

ICAM 8650 optimizes the materials quality of epoxy resins. With its silica particles only 20 nm in size, ICAM 8650 penetrates even the tiniest structures such as carbon fiber, thus increasing the material’s fracture toughness and impact resistance.

 

With ICAM 8650, you have the opportunity to increase toughness and stiffness perpendicular to the fiber direction. Discover for yourself what this means for the damage tolerance and interlaminar shear strength of your laminates.

 

Combine ICAM 8650 with standard epoxy resins, and obtain the hardness and stiffness of much more expensive, highly crosslinked epoxies, along with enormous toughness.
